Kiel, May 8th, 2023: In cooperation with the International Center and the Anti-Discrimination Advice Service of the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel (CAU), the Studentenwerk SH is organizing a workshop on May 30th on the subject of "everyday racism and empowerment" in the Mensa II in Kiel.

"International students encounter racism in different contexts - at university, at work, on the street, when shopping or in a private context, sometimes very directly and sometimes in a subtle way," says Johanna Usinger, advisor for student life at the SH student union. "Experiences of this kind put a huge strain on the students."

Therefore, the aim of the empowerment workshop is to create a space in which affected students can share their experiences of racism and exchange strategies. The participants learn, among other things, how they can protect themselves individually and strengthen each other. Maurice Soulié, spoken word activist and consultant for political education on anti-racism, critical whiteness and empowerment, will be the external speaker. The lecture language is English.

The workshop takes place from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and is aimed at international students from the three universities in Kiel. The number of participants is limited. Registration by e-mail by May 19, 2023 is requested.
